PLATANOS "The proud VILLAGE"
(altitude 220 m., an area of 21 sq. km.)
Administratively the local community of Platanos belongs to the Municipality of Aigialeia. The 2001 census recorded 519 inhabitants, while in the 2011 census, only 259.
In the Platanos Community belong the settlements, Ano Potamia, Tsivlos, Corinthian balcony and inventoried separately. According to the census of 2001 Ano Potamia had 51 residents, Tsivlos 40 and Corinthian Balcony 31.
Geographically, Platanos belongs to the prefecture of Achaia and is bordered east by the river Krathis, west with the local community of Trapeza, south with the local community of Kalamias and north with local community of Paralia Platanou and the Corinthian Gulf. The distances between the neighboring Communities are small.
The distance from the sea is 1800 m. and everyone can comfortably reach the village by car or commuter train (when the Corinth-Patras line commuter will be completed), from all major urban centers following the old or New National Route. The distance is 24 km from Aigio, 155 km from Athens, and 12 km from Akrata (seat of the former municipality).
Driving to Patra via the NNR, you can rejoice the sudden appearance of undulating with gentle succession green hills, with scattered houses. Olive trees and sour trees decorate these hills in an altitude of 228 m. followed by the the forest that is located to the area of ‘Vigla’ and 'Lakka'.
Beautiful, proud village with wide view to Rumeli, breathing in the balanced combination of mountain and sea landscape.
The climate is mild and healthy. The mild winter, is hastily followed by spring, with a myriad of colors and fragrances. Next comes the cool summer with northwest winds (aka "maistra"), with the sea-land breeze that is maintained during the months of autumn.
